Citrus Community College is Hiring a Mathematics Instructor Near Glendora, CA

Position Title Mathematics Instructor (Full-time tenure track to begin instruction Fall 2023)
POSITION SUMMARY
The District is recruiting to fill one full-time tenure track instructor positions for the Fall 2023 semester. This 10 month (175 days), full-time tenure track assignment may include instruction in a variety of mathematics courses with an emphasis in the Precalculus level and above: Precalculus, Applied Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. The assignments and schedules, as determined by the District, may include evening classes and/or courses off of our main campus.
Classes are offered on a 16-week calendar (fall and spring semesters), as well as in a variety of non-traditional scheduling options: winter intersession, evenings, summer sessions, and optional class formats, such as online education courses.
This position is contingent upon funding and final Board approval.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
– Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.
– Possession of a master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics, or a bachelor's degree in either of the above AND a master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education.
OR the equivalent.
OR
– Possession of a California Community College LIFE Credential in the appropriate discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience teaching in a community college environment.
– Experience teaching college-level mathematics courses.
– Experience teaching precalculus and calculus courses.
– Knowledge and experience using a variety of pedagogical teaching methods.
– Demonstrated ability and motivation to work in a collaborative, shared-governance environment.

Salary Range Salary to be determined by the candidate's proper placement on the current Faculty Salary Schedule, which is based on education and experience, and can be found at the Citrus College website. Maximum placement for newly hired instructor is Step 6.

ABOUT OUR MATHEMATICS AND BUSINESS DIVISION
Our Mathematics and Business Division is strongly committed to student success in mathematics. Our courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem solving and contextualized learning. We emphasize use of technology and various student-centered classroom modalities, along with traditional classroom learning, to prepare students for transfer success to a four-year institution. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Instruct classes in a manner consistent with the student learning outcomes adopted by the Mathematics Department and the District.
– Maintain professional and ethical academic standards.
– Provide class instruction in accordance with established course outline.
– Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.
– Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and student records and submit them in accordance with published deadlines.
– Properly and fully prepare in advance for classes.
– Grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner, and assess student work for both proper presentation of work and correctness.
– Meet obligations with regard to grade reporting, scheduled classes, required office hours, and other directions provided by supervisor.
– Perform job-related duties (program and committee work, community outreach, etc.) necessary for the smooth functioning of the District.
– Involve technology in the learning process when appropriate.
– Teach students with diverse backgrounds.
– Participate actively in staff development and professional growth programs.
– Participate in curriculum development.
– Perform other professional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
– Ability, desire, and commitment to teach mathematics courses at the Precalculus level and above: Precalculus, Applied Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra.
– Willingness to participate in the online education program and shared governance committees.
– Evidence of computer literacy and experience with standard computer software on Microsoft Windows platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas or similar).
  • Prepared to use and promote technology-mediated instructional techniques.
– Evidence of ability to communicate effectively, in English, with a diverse population both orally and in writing.

SELECTION PROCESS
– A selection committee will review application packages of those candidates who have met the minimum qualifications for this position and will select a limited number of qualified candidates for an in-person interview.
– Each candidate may be asked to make a presentation on a topic of the selection committee's choice. The candidate will be informed of the topic when an interview appointment is scheduled.
– Each candidate may be asked to provide a sample of his or her writing ability just prior to the interview.
– Travel costs must be borne by the applicant.
– Final candidates for faculty, management, and supervisor/confidential positions may be interviewed by the Superintendent/President.
– If selected as a finalist, the candidate permits the District to contact the current and former employer(s) to investigate past employment history.
